Salato Nature Center 10am on Saturday July 11.

This not a pack sponsored event, but the prices at Salato are very reasonable.   $4 for Adult and $2 for Children with under 5 are free.   If you have not been to Salato before, it is essentially a mini zoo that features wildlife native to Kentucky including
: Bobcats (aka Wildcats), Quail, Elk, Bison, Bald Eagles, Black Bears,White Tail Dear, Wild Turkeys,  Various types of Raptors,  even Skunks!   The kids really enjoy this outing and its a great way to get them outdoors and may even learn something about Kentucky wildlife.  The long range forecast for Saturday looks to be a nice day with just 20% chance of Rain.

  • We will meet at 10am at the entrance to the indoor exhibits which is past the lakes (if you get lost or have a question you can call me on my cell 536-3429)
  •  If you think you might be interested in going please send me a response with how many in your party so I can share an estimate with Salato how many in our group for the informal self-guided tour.
  • There are indoor exhibits but most of it is outdoors so I highly recommend sunscreen and a water bottle for everyone.
  • The picnic shelter is not available this weekend but you can bring a blanket or folding chairs and a picnic lunch to eat under shade trees.  (Highly recommended)
  • In addition to the animal exhibits, if the scouts are interested there are hiking trails available one is 0.7 miles long, the other is fairly long at 3 miles.
  • Also there is a stocked lake you may fish free of charge.  Children under 16 do NOT need a fishing license.  Bring your own bait and pole.  If you don't have a pole you can check one out free of charge at the Salato center.

The Salato Center is located on the grounds of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources Headquarters. From I-64 at Frankfort, take exit 53B to US 127 north and travel 1.5 miles to US 60. Turn left and drive 1.7 miles west on US 60 to the entrance of the KDFWR on the right. Turn right into the complex and proceed ahead 0.5 miles to the Salato Wildlife Education Center. Please drive carefully.
